Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation in which students learn about how the United Nations Organization functions. By participating, they develop their understanding of diplomacy, international relations, as well as improve their public speaking, debating, critical thinking, lobbying, teamwork, and leadership abilities. Model UN conferences are organized worldwide, enabling participants to become part of a vast network of contacts that inevitably influences their career and personal development opportunities.
The Model UN is typically organized for college/university students, as well as for secondary school and high-school students. The participants, also known as MUN delegates, are placed in committees and assigned countries or political organizations and figures in advance, which they need to represent during the discussion of specific topics. In the end, the best performing delegate in each committee is recognized with an award. |
